I am trying to figure out the whole dancing thing. The community life agreement talks about how we are not to dance in the school. But i just do not understand why. I was never brought up with the idea that dancing is bad, and i know it isnt, so why does this school support that rule. Especially because we are non denominational, and that rule seems very mennonite and nothing more. I have never heard of any other denominations that feel so strongly about dancing, but i could just be very ignorant to this subject and never have noticed.
The school in january are also changing the agreement in allowing our students to drink and go to bars. They are giving the students the chance to be treated more like an adult, and hopefully act more like one. So i hope that they relook over the dancing rule out aswell. I think that the school is more so scared about bumping and grinding in a christian school than anything at all. but i dont think it would happen. there has been many undercover "dance partys" in the school all of which have never turned into a bumping and griding fest. At open dorm last year there was DC Talk dance parties where people would dance in a circle and just have fun. On tuesday there was a halloween party that turned into a dance party, in which there were circles of dancing and limbo that broke out later. All of this is very innocent dancing, nothing sexual, nothign dirty, just people enjoying the music and expressing themselves through that.
What is so wrong with dancing? We read about how jesus danced, so where did the church go wrong? where was it in time that they decided that dancing was bad and why? It seems so typical that within the church they have come up with weird assumptions of what is bad and good, but is never talked about within the bible, but we have adapted it. Dancing is fun, clean and definitly NOT wrong.... so let us do it!
