I live on campus, so I don't really need much. But i wanted to get a few things for those days that are too cold to leave dorm to eat. Or if i am studying hard, i don't want to have to leave to make the cafeteria hours. Ive noticed how there are so many new products, or brands on the shelves. It seems like our grocery stores are going to have to get larger and larger because of the amount of products are coming in. I suppose the stores don't need to buy that to supply, but also i think about the way we are right now, and how eating is a big struggle for our society. Everything is big, people love eating, and people are getting fatter. More companies want to meet that demand. I don't know if this is completely off the wall, but it always seemed to me that grocery stores were never really this big before. And for a small town of 9,000 people, do they really need 4 large grocery stores? i don't think they do...

Empty Room

I have always thought of myself as a pretty independent person, I can be by myself, I don’t need anyone to take care of me, I’m pretty good on my own. But when I first came to prov this semester, I knew I could have my own room because I was on Student Council. However my friend Stephanie, asked if I wanted to be her roommate, so I agreed in all knowledge that it would be just like having my own room because she will never be here. It has worked so well so far, we’ve gotten into minimal fights and have become closer than ever. I recently found out that she would not be living in dorm next semester but in Niverville with her parents. At first I didn’t think much of it because its not like she’s leaving the school, but I will rarely see her. I’m already feeling lonely thinking about how lonely my room will be; I don’t want to have my own room. I love the company of another person. I can no longer be woken up at 3 in the morning and then be excited to talk till 4 every night. There will no longer be those bonding moments that no one knows about. I never thought that I wouldn’t want my own room; I don’t want my roomy to leave. I like that extra presence and being forced to share everything. I don’t want to be alone… I feel like I’m losing a sister.

Contagious mood

This week is definitely a week full of a mixture of emotions. Everyone is extremely stressed in which it has seemed to be contagious. I don’t ever get stressed, so it is weird that I have this year. Everyone is scrambling to get the papers that all the professors has assigned to be due at the end of the year. I swear they like watching us all get so frantic, why else would they all assign the major projects till the very end. So much work and so little time. However the fact that everyone is doing homework is a great motivator for me to do work because there is nothing else to do. But the school always feels so weird, when eveyone in it isnt happy and joyful, but on edge and stressed. I cant wait till next semester...

Food Frustrations

Last week there was a Speak up or Speak out student council chapel. Where it was a forum for the students to address their concerns of the school, and find out why it is the way it is. The hot topic was the cafeteria, not good enough hours, terrible food, unsatisfactory everything. People are so ignorant; we are getting what we pay for. People want more for less money. The world doesn’t work this way. We are getting it good. On our soccer trips we ate in many bible college cafeterias and lets just say we have it amazing...I really got the chance to appreciate just how well we have it. These concerns are so petty, however i realize it seems so huge for some people. get over it, eat it and shut up.

Van Gogh comming out of me

So this weekend I had to d a project, in which half was a paper and the other was a creative aspect. I in this thought long and hard as to what I would do, so I decided I would give a go at painting. This summer i tried to paint and it was terrible, so I basically gave up on serious painting. But there was a canvas in our room and all these paints from a school event, so it was fate. I decided i would paint a picture of Jezebel, the evil queen of Jezreel found in first and second Kings. I painted it, and it turned out pretty good. Well, at least I was very impressed with it because I never thought I could paint. It really can’t be compared any near to Van Gogh’s work, but it’s my second time painting! It is a new inspiration for me and I will probably keep going with it. But it’s just so weird how a creative side of you can pop out of you in the most random time of your life. In High school I never took art or anything because I thought I was terrible at it. Then in college when I decided I would try something new, creative art projects was what came out of me. It’s a new side of me that I never really witnessed before and I even think I am doing a decent job with my work. I've started to draw, and do a lot of sewing, and now painting. It’s cool that there really is more to yourself than you think. I havent even had a chance to think about Christmas and it just feels like it gets really big too fast. I have always noticed how consumerism is very huge during Christmas time but I never actualy analyzed everything in the mall before. I think I have always been very ignorant to it and just looked at it like its the way it always has been and so it makes it normal... but it really shouldnt. People always in a rush to buy things for people that you probably dont even want to shop for. The advertisments are horrible, making sure you buy thier product becasue that is apparently what everyone wants for christmas. The other day I saw a really funny best buy commercial where the salesperson gave the reaction to the gift idea. When did christmas ever get so large in our society? whatever happened to the little old Christmas story that ever brought Chrismas to life? why do I need to feel obligated to buy the people I know a gift? and if I dont why do I feel guilty? does that seem right to you? I want to buy a gift for someone becasue I feel like buying them something. I want to show them I care in a gift when they least expect it. but where is that message when everyone is giving them gifts just because its Chrsitmas. we are so selfish. I hate christmas.

Midnight scare

Last night the most peculiar occurance came about my way. About 2:30 in the morning there was a knock on my dorm room door. I awoke to the sound and found myself infront of a man dressed in black, with a hood on, a white (phantom of the opera looking) mask, and white fangs. This person was sitting like a dog would, arms in front and crouching on his hind legs, biting and licking the air in a very unattractive fashion. My first reaction was "Creepy" and a slam to the door, i was very comfused and a little bit scared and unsure if what i saw was truly fictional so i reopened the door to convince myself that what i saw was real. i shut the door once again to a lock and jumped under my covers, in full knowledge that it most likely was a prank. However there was still a mystery of who it was and my heart was racing. i peeked out my window to see if what was lurking around was gone, and the terrifying face was up against my window starring straight at me. my heart was racing even more, watching this thing scratch at my window and make mouth growling movements really freaked me out. once again i flinched and felt like i was in a Van Helsing movie, with my imagination running wild. I slammed the window to scare the thing away and it ran off like it would if it were an animal.
Pranks! one of those things people love doing here at prov, to pass the time and get a good laugh. However, that was a risky prank. Breaking the rules by coming into a girls dorm and running the risk of seeing me in premiscuoous bedwear. I could have answered the door in my gitch in all knowledge that if there was a knock on my door at 2:30 in the morning it would most likely be someone of the female gender. Its funny that this person disregards the rules for a simple prank. and only in this "harmless" prank would they ever break the rules. To be honest it was funny that they scared me pretty good, but they arent doing anyone any favors. Women get it enough as it is. Its instances like these that make woman scared of men. When a girl is walking down a street and passes a man, their first reaction is being scared. The man is getting judged right off the bat. Pranks like these really arent doing anybody any favors.

Outing

Last night, The student Council decided they would go on an outing together. We ended up going to Georges Burgers, Bowling and then to the cheap seats. To top all of that off we decided we were all going to dress up formally. The fact that we were not going to any fancy restarurant or place was quite embaressing, we looked like we came back from some fancy party and then were too cheap to go anywhere else. I was one of the drivers, and have only driven in winnipeg 3 times in my life, so i did not have a clue where it was i was going. So I was told to follow the other cars, but when you have to wait for oncoming traffic, you usually loose the person you have to follow. It was an adventure driving all over Winnipeg, with no knowledge of where i was or where i was going. All i had was the street name, which did help alot for asking directions. who knew that it could be so hard to find a bowling alley and that it would take an hour to do so. But it was a lot of fun hainging out with the STUCO reps and getting the oppurtunity to finally wear the dress I made this summer.

Oh the Joys of having a car...

This weekend my roomate steph flew off to the very sunny and warm state of florida! Since she was gone i was given the priveledge to use her car for the week. Never owning a car nor ever having to pay for gas back at home never really gave me the true understanding of how easily it is to go broke with a certain toy such as a vehicle. Not only do you have to pay for gas but insurance on tope of that. Gas alone this weekend was 40$. You dont really add on top of that the fact that the reason your going somewhere is to have fun and spend even more money on doing things. Like for instance this weekend i went: Glow bowling, Kareoke, Out for dinner (X2), Starbucks, Tim hortons, Big Expectations, and to the Movies. The total outcome of money for this weekend was probably around 100$... on two days. I dont think i would be able to afford a car if i had one for the year. that would be about $5200 a year depending on having that much fun every weekend. Thats enough for a years tuition! There is no way i can afford a car.. but there is no way i would be able to keep sane if there were no vehicles at this school.. it is a win lose situation.

Let us dance!

I am trying to figure out the whole dancing thing. The community life agreement talks about how we are not to dance in the school. But i just do not understand why. I was never brought up with the idea that dancing is bad, and i know it isnt, so why does this school support that rule. Especially because we are non denominational, and that rule seems very mennonite and nothing more. I have never heard of any other denominations that feel so strongly about dancing, but i could just be very ignorant to this subject and never have noticed.
The school in january are also changing the agreement in allowing our students to drink and go to bars. They are giving the students the chance to be treated more like an adult, and hopefully act more like one. So i hope that they relook over the dancing rule out aswell. I think that the school is more so scared about bumping and grinding in a christian school than anything at all. but i dont think it would happen. there has been many undercover "dance partys" in the school all of which have never turned into a bumping and griding fest. At open dorm last year there was DC Talk dance parties where people would dance in a circle and just have fun. On tuesday there was a halloween party that turned into a dance party, in which there were circles of dancing and limbo that broke out later. All of this is very innocent dancing, nothing sexual, nothign dirty, just people enjoying the music and expressing themselves through that.
What is so wrong with dancing? We read about how jesus danced, so where did the church go wrong? where was it in time that they decided that dancing was bad and why? It seems so typical that within the church they have come up with weird assumptions of what is bad and good, but is never talked about within the bible, but we have adapted it. Dancing is fun, clean and definitly NOT wrong.... so let us do it!

Sports

I've noticed that ive blogged a lot about sports and It may have something to do with it being a large part of my life. Also, probably because it is a large part of this school. There isn't that much to do in the school but to play sports or watch them. There arent a whole lot of clubs or groups, but there are sport teams, and good teams at that.
Last night I went to the first Mens Hockey Game of the season. They played a bunch of old-timers at the Mitchell Arena. The game was in our favor with a win of 4-3. There were tons of fans in the bleachers with signs and hockey player numbers on their hats and mittens. The roaring sound of the fans echoed in the small arena, while the players pushed for the first win of their season.

New Season

As much as I love the beautiful game of soccer, I am almost happy to see the season finished. We shopped in one of Winnipeg’s top malls, St.Vital. It is nice to have a large city nearby to get away once in awhile, when Providence just doesn’t cut it for good times, which is very rare. The big city is only 45 minutes away and if you don’t have a vehicle, the school has provided a very handy shuttle bus for those unfortunate few. It was my first time taking the shuttle, and I don't think I would do it again. I would much rather get a bunch of people together, take their car, and save money then take the shuttle bus. But it was worth taking the shuttle for the experience.

Favourite Room

The mailbox room is one of my favorite rooms in all of Providence College. There is nothing like the feeling of receiving fresh mail from a beloved friend. The sweet joys of receiving a single piece of paper in the beige rectangular box, that I call my mailbox. A lot of people use the mailboxes for encouragement, or even just basic news. I personally love the ‘straight from the heart’ notes from my friends. Construction papered cutouts with colorful pictures and a basic note exclaiming how they love you and your friendship is always a wonderful thing to receive. The school is relatively small, but the library is surprisingly large and very modern looking. It has the most comfortable couches and chairs in the school and used probably more for sleeping on than sitting. The library is a great place to hang out, sleep, do homework and to do pranks. The most typical prank pulled in the library is slipping an uncomfortable/ embarrassing book into someone’s bag. So when the person goes through the scanner, the alarm will sound and the librarian will search the bag to find the infamous book that is ever so embarrassing to be caught with. I can agree with all of those statements but I dont mind it. I am in the Media and Communications program, and I have really noticed that when it comes to my homework, the communications classes tend to be first priority for homework. I am not saying this to suck up to the professor nor to make myself sound very studious and a brown noser. But I thouroughly enjoy doing the projects that we get in our communications and media classes. These projects give us so much freedom and oppurtunityto be as creative as we want to. We are able to open our mind to anything and write about it or to show it.
In my previous year I had a lot of fun making videos for classes (a music video and info-mercial), along with the variety of writings for different mediums and topics. I enjoy being apart of this program and it really allows one to bring out their thoughts, beliefs and opinions into their work.

Snow-Ball

Yesturday the varsity girls soccer team had a soccer game at SBC in steinbach. It was a very different game of soccer, one that we may not even be able to call soccer. The downfall of living in Manitoba is the weather, and when you join this team it is a bargain whether you are going to get good weather in your soccer season or not. Yesturday they did not get that good luck. There was about 1 foot of snow on that soccer feild. During their pre-game practise they would practise passing the ball to eachother. However, when they did this, the ball would build up with snow and form a large snowball. This game was very hard to take seriously, but could tell it was very enjoyable by the large smiles on the faces of the girls running around. They would chase the ball, slip, fall and loose the ball as easily as you could get it. The temperature was not cold, nor was it windy, so it was even better playing conditions. The game had an outcome of 3-0 for the Providence College Womens Soccer team and they showed no mercy for Steinbach.

Walk-In Theatre

I have mentioned in my profile that I am the Social Recreation Representative at Providence College. This position I think is the more exciting position on STUCO, because I can do any idea for an event I have in my head, if I want to. This year I want to plan as many events as I can so the student body doesn't get bored and will have a memorable year.
Last week I planned an event called the, "Walk-in-Theatre" in which, I think, was a great success. All it was, was a movie projected on a very large screen outdoors on the football posts, with a loud stereo system provided by the school. It looked and almost felt like I actually was at a Drive-In theatre, minus the vehicles, but it was a lot of fun. Mother Nature was also very kind to me on this night with a blessing of no wind or rain. The night was calm, the stars were out, and people gathered around with the warm blankets and eager hearts to watch a childhood favourite, "The Goonies." The little things such as these events allow everyone in the school to unite in a positive enviroment, it gives people a chance to talk with those who they do not see most often. The great thing about being at a small school is that you can have fun with everyone because there isn't a million people who go to your school.

Land of Oppurtunity

My primary Focus for this blog is the fun I have at Prov. My life is full, but I very much enjoy every minute of it. Life always brings tons of fun obstacles, and this is where I plan to record it.

This is me in the entrance way of my wonderful School, Providence College and Theological Seminary.

I love being a part of theVarsity Girls Soccer team. This weekend I went on 1 of 3 soccer trips to the United States of America. We played 2 Games against Faith Baptist School, with wins of 4-1, and 8-2. We travelled on the Coach Bus with the boys team for 9.5 hours and Arrived in Owatonna, Minnesota saturday morning. We were exhausted from the night sleep, and long bus ride, and then played one great butt- kicking game. Hot tubbed, swam and Saunaed that evening and then rested again for our last game the next day. After that we headed back to the Country where I was born and raised, Canada. The weekend was non stop, fun, and exhausting. When your on these trips you get no sleep; Theres no sleeping on the bus because it is very noisy, terrible hotel beds, and nerves keep you from enjoying one of my favorite things to do- sleep. I love going on Soccer trips, and cant wait until the next one comes.
